Happy New Year! I know you’re all excited about new year, you probably made plenty of resolutions or set a goal or two. As easy as it is to set goals or resolutions, it’s much harder to actually keep them. Or to even start sometimes! How to maintain that New Year’s cheer and excitement? Well, a good film or two can’t hurt for sure, to keep you motivated, excited and on the right track. And basically – in good mood which is everything! Cause it’s hard to keep on working on your goals and staying motivated when you’re feeling down in the first place, right?
So here are few picks that will help you to set the right mood for 2019 – and hopefully maintain it 😉
I mean obviously, this is and always will be my number one choice and recommendation for anyone who needs that extra kick to go for their dreams, believe in themselves or simply to boost their mood. All of these elements VERY important at the start of the year.
This movie will make you dream! And at the end of it, you’ll be screaming (or singing) THIS IS ME and making the whole world see it. No shame, no barriers. This is you, your life and no matter how imperfect it may be, no matter how many setbacks and failures you encountered, the important part is you always got yourself up again, acknowledged all your mistakes and bruises.. and kept on marching with your head held high. Because if you never try, you never know.. And you want to know. And you know what? Anything is possible. A million dreams is all it’s gonna take 😉
I mean aren’t musicals just the best way to start your year with? And especially when they are about hopeless dreamers just like you and I and which will make you wanna dance! This one celebrates especially the dreamers within the film world but creativity and imagination generally. Basically, if you dare to dream, you dare to live. And this film is for you.
But it’s also true, that no dream ever came to reality the easy way, so the one thing need to keep in mind is to never give up. And never regret anything – everything that happens in your life, all the people you meet along the way, are there for a reason. Maybe they’re there to remind you of who you are. Maybe they’re there to make you believe in you and your dreams again when you’ve forgotten. Maybe they’re here to help you take the road you wouldn’t have taken otherwise… To push you to the right direction. And if they leave your life at some point, it doesn’t necessarily mean a bad thing. They’ve played their part. Essential part. And it’s time to move on – and that’s okay. No need to be sad about it.
Nothing is impossible and it’s NEVER too late. It can only be unlikely and later than usual. But that’s all that it is – if you have a dream that you believe in so much that it becomes the air you breathe. A dream that wouldn’t let you sleep at night, a dream that makes you excited to get out of your bed every morning, well that’s all you really need to make it reality.
Eddie the Eagle is one of the most contagiously optimistic films I’ve ever seen. Yeah, Eddie might drive you a bit crazy sometimes. He’s a simple fella. But then again, he surely doesn’t overthink. He has a dream. He’s going for it. No doubts, no fear. Just pure faith. Faith in his own abilities, and complete denial of things possibly not working out. And you know what? It worked for him. He was a total outcast. It was the most unlikely of all things for him to make it to the Olympics. He was far too old to start with ski jumping. Not the athletic type either.
None of it matters when you have your heart and soul fixed on that one dream. You CAN do anything. So put those doubts aside.
I know everybody on this island, seems so happy on this island
Everything is by design
I know everybody on this island has a role on this island
So maybe I can roll with mine
Or maybe not… if the water is calling you for as long as you can remember, maybe there’s a reason for it..
Yes, indeed. If your inner voice is calling you to take a different road than others, perhaps one that no one has taken before you, it’s more likely right and you’d be a fool to not listen to the voice within you that’s calling you.
Yes, I know it’s so easy to think there must be something wrong with you when you seem unhappy with what others are completely happy with. You start to feel ungrateful for what you have and like you’re maybe asking too much. But no. Please believe me. It’s OKAY to want more. It’s okay to listen to your heart. It’s perfectly fine.
There’s a reason you are being called to take that journey. Even if you have no idea what lies ahead. Just trust your instincts. And see where it leads you… I promise, it’s gonna be the greatest adventure of your life.
…or any Creed or Rocky movie for that matter. Cause these films are all about fighting BUT not necessarily in the literal sense only. Yes, they are about boxing, but they are about so much more too. They are about never giving up. About never giving up no matter how many times you fall. About knowing what it is you’re fighting for – what is your WHY.
Refuse to give up, too. Refuse to give up on your dreams, on your believes, on your life – on yourself. Get back on your feet and keep on fighting. Because ‘it’s not about how hard you can hit, but about how hard you can get hit and still keep on moving forward’.
Because ’round after round you learn more about yourself’ and because if ‘we don’t do what we love, then you wouldn’t exist’.
Those are just two quotes from Creed II and the Rocky movies. And I couldn’t have said it better myself.
Are you watching these yet…? 😉
Either you are a fan of Queen and Freddie Mercury or not (although you shouldn’t exactly hate their music should you decide to watch this) this movie is a celebration of the geniuses. A celebration of hard work and sticking to one’s vision. No compromises. If you believe in what you do, don’t you ever let the outside world convince you otherwise. Or to compromise. Or to compare yourself to others.
They say your vision is crazy cause no one’s ever done that before or succeeded? Well. So what.
You ARE going to rock.
And you are also going to get swept away by the awesome music of the Queen while watching this film. It’s epic. It’s inspiring.
And it’s also very sad…
It’s a powerful reminder of how important it is to first of all love and accept yourself and not try to be anybody else. Love yourself for what you are, with all your flaws that make you so uniquely you. They are not flaws in fact. It’s who you are. And you can never find happiness when you don’t love yourself unconditionally.
The lack of self-love has cost Freddie his life. Don’t make the same mistake.
With that said, don’t worry – this film honestly isn’t a depressive retelling of one’s life and the final sequence from the Live Aid concert will make you wanna dance… and sing… and it will simply rock you.
Inside each and every one of us is one true authentic swing… Somethin’ we was born with… Somethin’ that’s ours and ours alone… Somethin’ that can’t be taught to ya or learned… Somethin’ that got to be remembered… Over time the world can, rob us of that swing… It get buried inside us under all our wouldas and couldas and shouldas… Some folk even forget what their swing was like…
Are you one of these folks? If so, I cannot recommend this film enough. The Legend of Bagger Vance is not only a beautiful poetic movie with amazing cinematography, but also quite funny, especially thanks to Charlize Theron’s and Will Smith’ characters. It’s also incredibly inspiring – but you need to listen carefully. Pay attention to Bagger Vance words. They might just change your life.
This film is a sum up the most important life lessons we should all keep in mind in a very fun and beautiful packaging. It’s not all just about golf and a swing. Just remember that.
